This was the very first album cover I ever designed—created over 15 years ago for the debut album by The Amorettes, my own band at the time. Looking back, I can still see the punk energy in it, something that feels wonderfully relevant again with the resurgence of riot grrrl-inspired aesthetics. Created as a digital collage, the artwork brought together classic rock influences, leopard print, plenty of pink and cat scratches; the perfect cliché reflecting both the attitude of the music and the fact that we were an all-girl band determined to do things our own way. The accompanying in-sleeve booklet continued the collage style, combining photographs and snapshots of our antics to capture the energy, chaos and spirit of that moment in time.It may have been my first attempt at album artwork, but it was made with a huge amount of enthusiasm, and I think that youthful, unapologetic energy is still in there.
